Facilities
Equipment Available in the Department
- 3 channel students physiograph with transducer (for pressure, force, volume, isotonic contraction, pulse, temperature, respiration), couplers and electrodes for electrocardiography (ECG), electromyography and electroencephalography (EEG).
- Digital polyrite with pressure, force, volume, isotonic transducers, along with the facility to record pulse wave tracing, temperature, electromechanical systole (phonocardiograph), respiratory movements, skin galvanic response (GSR) electrocardiography (ECG), two-channel surface electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG).Â
- Benedict Roth and digital spirometers to record various lung volumes and capacities, oxygen consumption and calculation of resting metabolic rate (RMR). Â
- Bicycle ergometer and handgrip dynamometer to perform and quantify isotonic and isometric exercises respectively.Â
- Photoelectric calorimeter, physical balance, pH meter to study the physical and analytical chemical phenomenon.Â
Research activities
The department conducts research through Ph.D., MD, STS scholars, and faculty projects. Procedures performed in the department are the assessment of autonomic functions by heart rate variability (HRV), non-invasive automated BP recording, phonocardiography, spirometry, galvanic skin response (GSR), electrocardiography (ECG), two-channel electroencephalography (EEG), two-channel surface electromyography (EMG) and bicycle ergometry.
Facilities for Students
- The department exclusively has 6 demonstration rooms and 4 laboratories to conduct small group teaching and practical exercises for undergraduate students.Â
- Seminar Room of the department is equipped with an LCD projector and computer with internet access, where postgraduate students present/attend classes, discussions, microteaching, practicals and other presentations moderated by the department faculty.
- The departmental library has a collection of new as well as old versions of the standard reference books for better and in-depth understanding of Physiology. The students can also gain access to additional books as well as national and international journals through the central library of the institute.
