Overview
The department was established along with the college in the year of 2001. Since then it has grown into one of the well-established department of the institute. The department offers medical care besides special clinics like Diabetic clinic, Hypertension clinic, Thyroid clinic and Hematology clinic. The department also actively participates in providing community health services in association with NGO’s in rural areas of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu by conducting outreach camps. The department actively participates in the Telemedicine camps organized by the institute.

Goals
To be one of the torch-bearing departments in fulfilling the vision of MGMCRI in bringing this institute as one of the premier institutes of medical education in the country in teaching and training medical professional to impart a comprehensive, evidence-based, affordable and compassionate patient care and to excel in innovative and translational research in areas of national and international priorities such as Diabetes, Hypertension and communicable diseases.
The department played a key role in ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, nearing 2000 cases of Covid-19 infection was treated till date and the commitment to the human suffering still continues.
