Urban Health Training Center

The Urban Health Training Center (UHTC) of MGMCRI is located at Pillaithottam, which is in the heart of Puducherry town. It aims to provide preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative service to an urban population. The center caters health care services to around 15000+ population covering 6 urban areas in the town. The center functions from 8 AM to 8 PM. There is a Medical Officer posted in the center along with other support staff- staff nurses, lab technicians, pharmacist etc., to take care of the OPD patients.  The General OPD functions on all days except Sundays. The center has a well-equipped laboratory setup for carrying out the basic investigations, while for other investigations a sample is taken and sent to MGMCRI central lab on payment basis. There is also a pharmacy located within the center. The laboratory and pharmacy functions until 8 PM. The center also provides dental care services on all working days by Dental physicians from Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences.

The UHTC also runs speciality clinics in the morning hours, with consultants of various departments of MGMCRI visiting the center on specific days. Consultants from ENT and Ophthalmology visit on Monday; Psychiatry on Tuesday; Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Dermatology on Thursday. The general, dental and the speciality OPD services are provided free of cost to the patients by the center.

The center has also recently launched Super-specialty clinics in the evening hours with the renowned specialist from Cardiology, Urology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, General medicine and Dental visiting the center on an Appointment basis. In addition to all these services, the center provides ambulance services for patients needing immediate tertiary care attention and for those referred from UHTC.

Complementing to the health care service provided in the center, UHTC serves as for the training of medical undergraduates, postgraduates and nursing students. All major national health programs are implemented in the center. Field activities and survey are also conducted by staffs (MSW, ANM, etc.,) at routine intervals. The center functions as a research training facility for postgraduate students, Undergraduate ICMR projects.
