The Department of Psychiatry, MGMCRI, is functioning since August 2001.The department of Psychiatry at MGMCRI is an integrated complex with adjoining outpatient and in-patient facilities.The department is located in Block-H of the main hospital building, on the ground floor (H-0), at numbers 25 & 26.

The department provides safe, ethical & evidence-based mental health care with compassion & dedication. We have a team of well-qualified psychiatrists, psychologists & a social worker, to facilitate the implementation of a biopsychosocial model for assessment & treatment.The department has an in-patient unit equipped with ample numbers of beds manned by nurses experienced in the delivery of mental health care.We constantly strive towards enhancement of patient care & safety through continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Comprehensive treatment is provided for a variety of common mental disorders, including mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, adjustment disorders, etc.In addition, we also offer counseling for minor mental health problems and psychological difficulties, interpersonal problems and academic difficulties. Stress management counseling is provided too.We provide specialized consultation services for persons with addiction problems, children with mental health issues, and elderly with mental health problems. 

We strive to implement strategies to enhance mental health literacy, destigmatize mental illness & facilitate help-seeking. We regularly conduct outreach & mental health awareness programs. In addition, our department conducts student mental health programs at schools.

General OPD Services

Monday to Friday: 8.30 AM to 4:00 PM, Saturday: 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The OPD services are not available on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Special Clinics

Substance Use Disorders Clinic

The beneficiaries are patients with addiction problems (such as alcohol use disorder, nicotine use disorder, including technology & behavioral addictions ) and their family members.The patients are assessed in detail along with their caregivers and will be provided comprehensive treatment including medicines & holistic psychosocial services such as individual or group-based deaddiction counselling therapy.

Smoking Cessation Clinic (In collaboration with the Department of Pulmonary Medicine)

This is functioning as a part of Substance Use Disorders Clinic. The treating team consist of Pulmonologist, Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatric Social Worker. The clinic provides exclusive psychopharmacological and counselling services to those who suffer from tobacco dependence (both smoking and chewable forms of tobacco).

Child Guidance Clinic (In collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics)

This clinic is a unit of the multidisciplinary neuro-developmental clinic. It provides mental health services for children & adolescents. It includes exclusive services like sensory integration and play therapy.
