Facilities
Outpatient Unit
The OPD unit has 3 consultation rooms, 2 minor OT for minor surgical procedure and wound dressing, 1 separate room for Transgender consultation clinic, 1 more separate room for consulting terminally ill Palliative care patients. We also provide treatment for various cancer patients by an interdepartmental discussion with Radiation Oncologist.Â
Endoscopy Suite
The endoscopy suite is replete with an upper and lower GI video endoscopes with recording/playback facility. We routinely perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures endoscopically on a daily basis. A large number of patients benefit from this minimally invasive procedure. Diagnostic procedures include H.pylori testing, tissue biopsy, brush cytology. Deployment of stents in inoperable oesophageal cancers, as well as banding or injection sclerotherapy for upper GI bleeding, are done. Also, therapeutic oesophageal balloon dilatation for stricture is being done in our department.
Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
The Surgical Intensive Care Unit is a specialized unit of the Department of Surgery that provides ample treatment to the needs of surgically sick patients requiring intensive care round the clock. The SICU is an eight-bedded unit, to effectively manage postoperative and sick patients. The intensive care unit is headed and supervised by an efficient professor in the department of surgery and by a dedicated Assistant professor with ample experience in emergency and intensive care services. SICU is also manned by postgraduate students and CRRIs in surgery department who are trained in surgical as well as ACLS & BLS care. The supportive staff include senior staff nurses and junior nurses. Our dedicated team is available round the clock to monitor the progress, outcome and early recovery of the patients.
Palliative Care Unit
Palliative medicine is an upcoming new speciality aimed at relieving suffering, improving quality of life and comfort care. There are many challenges and barriers in providing palliative care to our patients. The major challenge is lack of knowledge, attitude and skills among health-care providers. The interdisciplinary care addresses physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Palliative care team is aided by efficient consultants of multiple departments which comprises of, Radiation Oncology, General surgery team, Anesthesia, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, General Medicine, and a senior staff nurse experienced in palliative nursing care.
Sex Reassignment Surgery:
Department of General Surgery offers Gender affirmation surgeries for Male to Female Transgenders. This is very unique service offered in our hospital, which is being done in very few centers in India. A total number of 220 surgeries were performed with excellent results and low complication rate. We are able to attract clients from other states of India and nearby countries. Our institution had become a very prominent centre in South India. Currently the surgery is being offered as a package which is of affordable low cost when compared to other private centers. We have signed MoU with Chattisgarh Govt and other NGOs for setting up a gender care services model in their respective centers.
In-Patient Facilities
The department has wards separate for male and female where surgical patients are treated until discharge. Patients are moved into the wards from SICU under the supervision of the consultants after early recovery.

Seminar Room and Computers
State – of – the – art air-conditioned seminar room with an LCD projection system aids the students to comprehend the nuances of the subject. The department is also computerized for official as well as academic work.
Departmental Library and Museum
The library is well equipped with over 150 books in General Surgery and allied specialties. It remains up-to-date with all recently published books. It is readily accessible by the faculty and students alike as it is situated in the heart of the department. New text and reference books were added to the library on periodic basis.
Department is also equipped with various postoperative specimens in the museum for teaching and also examination purposes for the benefit of residents.
