Radiodiagnosis

Facilities

The diagnostic armamentarium of the department of radiology includes 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (Philips intern), Computed Tomography (128 slice Wipro GE and Dual slice Wipro GE), 6 Ultrasound units (inclusive of 4D state–of–the–art colour Doppler units) a mammography unit, in addition to 1000mA digital HF system with image intensifier.

MRI

The MRI 1.5 T high definition platforms capable of advanced applications like diffusion imaging, total body imaging, and MR spectroscopy. The chief merits of MRI include the absence of exposure to ionizing radiation,  visualization of blood vessels without the usage of intravenous contrast and multiplanar imaging. MRI is the imaging technique of choice for the diagnosis of disorders pertaining to the Cranium, Spine and Musculoskeletal system.

MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography) has virtually replaced ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), especially if intervention is not required.

CT

There are Computed Tomography systems, a 128 slice, Wipro GE machine. All routine scans of the Brain, Thorax, Abdomen & Musculoskeletal system are performed. The 128 slice scanner is the most advanced among the latest generation of CT scanners and has revolutionized imaging protocols. The 3D workstation is attached. The whole body can be scanned in a few seconds and high-resolution 3D images of any organ system can be generated. The applications of this system are in the field of noninvasive angiography and coronary angiograms which are being offered at very economical cost.

Ultrasound

The department has around 5 Ultrasound machines including 4 Colour Doppler machines and Siemens Acuson 2000 with 4D Ultrasound. All routine Ultrasound scans of the Abdomen, Neck, Scrotum, Breast and Musculoskeletal system along with elastography are performed.

Transcranial, Transvaginal and Transrectal Ultrasounds are performed. Antenatal scan and Doppler of all blood vessels are performed routinely. Ultrasound guided interventions like Percutaneous Nephrostomy, Liver Abscess drainage and FNAC / Biopsies are also performed.

Mammography

The Department also provides Mammography services where accurate imaging of the breast is performed for women over 40 years. It helps in early detection of breast cancers.

X-Ray

The department has 1000mA, 800 mA, two 600mA, 500 mA, 300mA and several mobile x ray units. 1000 mA Flexavision has radiofrequency table and provision for digital radiography. All regular X-rays are taken. Special procedures like Barium studies, Fistuologram, MCU, etc are performed under fluoroscopic guidance.

Facilities for Students

Library

The department has a large collection of the latest Radiology books (130+ books). There is also a vast E book collection ( >500 books). Also, several RSNA and other CME video’s are available in the department. The department also receives six international and national journals annually.

Museum

The department has a vast collection of X ray, CT and MRI films. This collection includes some of the common conditions in radiology as well as some of the rarest disease. There are more than 500 films in this collection and serves as a large learning source for the undergraduates and postgraduates.

Seminar Hall

There is a seminar hall within the department with a seating capacity of 25 . It is fully equipped with all audio-visual aid and is used for postgraduate discussion and case presentations.
