Facilities
The outpatient unit of the Department of Psychiatry consists of 14 rooms (including 12 consulting rooms, a well-equipped clinical demonstration room / seminar hall & a conference room. The in-patient ward comprises ample beds to facilitate care for admitted patients along with a fully equipped electroconvulsive therapy room, 2 seclusion rooms, 2 recreation rooms, a store room and a side laboratory.
The department provides MD Psychiatry postgraduate training (3 years duration), conducts regular clinical teaching exercises for undergraduate MBBS students on a 15-day rotational basis, and short-term clinical teaching for students of nursing and allied health sciences. The clinical teaching is rendered across the outpatient consultation rooms, bedside rounds, and department seminar rooms. Apart from clinical teaching facilities research activities (MD-Dissertation, Intramural and Extramural Projects) are being conducted regularly for MD, MBBS, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences disciplines.Â
The department has a comprehensive library, with a repository of 175+ books and 14 recent issues of the Psychiatric Clinics of North America. The department has access to 2 Indian journals (Indian Journal of Psychiatry, Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine) & 2 foreign journals (Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry). In addition, the faculty & postgraduate residents have online access to a large number of neuropsychiatry journals through an institutional Proquest subscription.
