Postgraduates Training

Postgraduate students from the base specialities (General Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Pulmonary Medicine, General Surgery) are posted in the critical care medicine department in rotation every month. These graduates are trained in essential clinical skills like early identification and resuscitation, rapid bedside clinical assessment, insertion of invasive lines and necessary life-saving procedures in managing the critically ill patients. 

Certified Training

For the certificate courses offered in the department, students undergo rigorous training based on the core critical care medicine principles designed by ISCCM and Hongkong Chinese University.

BASIC (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care )is primarily designed as an introduction to Intensive Care for doctors coming to work in the ICU for the first time but has also proved popular with senior ICU nurses, Emergency department doctors and other doctors who have responsibility for severely ill patients

Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) established in 1993 in India, is an association of ‘Intensivists’ playing a major role in leading growth to critical care medicine practice, teaching & training. The establishment of a structured curriculum based training course in a postgraduate teaching institute like Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute will enhance the research dimension in critical care medicine. The department aims at starting DM Critical Care Medicine course as a tandem process.
