Rural Health Training Centre

The rural health training centre is located in Seliamedu village under Dept of Community Medicine. The village was adopted in 2001 and it is 4 kilometres distance from the institute. Initially, two villages adjacent to RHTC were the field practising area. Over the years, the coverage expanded to eight villages in our RHTC.

Urban Health Training Centre

The urban health training centre is located at Pillaithottam in the centre of Pondicherry town. Well equipped for basic investigations. It caters around 15000+ population covering more than 6 urban areas in the town.

Village Knowledge Center

In 1992 an interdisciplinary dialogue was held at the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in Chennai, India, on the theme “Information Technology, Reaching the Unreached”. The outcome of this discussion was a belief that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) had great potential for supporting rural development and sustainable agriculture in developing countries.

Information Village Research Project was launched with financial support from the International Development Research Centre, Canada, in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in South India, in January 1998.

It is a network of ten villages with computers, printers, telephones, very high frequency (VHF) duplex radio devices and other accessories. VKC in Veerampattinam was started on 4th April 1999 and in Pannithitu was 6th August 2000.

As per the official tie-up with M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) for providing rural health care at the Village Knowledge Centres (VKC), MGMCRI has adopted two VKCs at Pannithitu and Kuruvinatham.

Thereafter postgraduates are posted for the weekly clinic in Pannithitu and Veerampattinam on Tuesdays and Thursdays regularly.

Facility for Students

The department has well-equipped museum and research laboratory which provides an adequate facility for undergraduate and postgraduate students to involve in research activity. Department library is packed with national and international authored books for an academic reference.
