Comprehensive Patient Care

Pre-anesthetic clinic

The Pre-anesthetic clinic is situated in front of the main OT complex (B-Block), 2nd floor of the main hospital building. It is equipped with the multi-parameter monitor and Hospital Information System. It is manned by a consultant and 2 postgraduates. Review of the patient along with the investigations is done to assess the fitness for anaesthesia. All patients posted for surgery have to be cleared by this team before posting for surgery.

Operation Theatre Complexes

There are four OT complexes with the state-of-the-art modular operation theatres to provide safe anaesthesia services.

“B”-Block OT complex located in the 2nd floor of the hospital consists of theatres for general surgery orthopaedics, Urology, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. There is a dedicated procedure room with all necessary equipment to encourage research and ensure smooth workflow, within the main OT complex.

“D”-Block OT complex located in the 1st floor has theatres for Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Otorhinolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Surgery and Ophthalmology.

“H2” OT located in the 2nd floor has dedicated theatre for Obstetrics emergencies.

“A0″ OT complex located in the ground floor opposite to the pharmacy has 2 emergency theatres.

All OT’s are designed with laminar flow, along with constant Pressure and Temperature Monitoring to ensure “CLEAN” OT. All Theatre practices follow NABH Standard Operating Protocols, which are strictly adhered to and monitored by a designated OT committee which monitors The Quality Indicators, which are regularly reviewed to achieve a more efficient practice.

Equipment available in the department

  • Anaesthesia Workstations – Aysis anaesthesia care system, GE Datex Ohmeda 9100c anaesthesia workstation.
  • 2 USG Machines – Sonosite X-Porte USG System, GE-Logic Q System.
  • Monitors – Multi-parameter monitors, Neuromuscular transmission monitors, Anaesthesia depth monitors, Anaesthetic agent analyzers.
  • Drug Administration – Target controlled infusion pumps, Patient Controlled Analgesia pumps.
  • Airway Instruments – Carl Storz Fibreoptic bronchoscope, Kings Vision and Tru View video laryngoscopes, all types and sizes of Laryngeal mask airway – I-Gel, Pro Seal, Supreme, Intubating LMA, McIntosh and McCoy Laryngoscopes, Ventilating Bougies, Transtracheal Jet Ventilation.
  • Inhalational agents and corresponding vaporizers – Isoflurane, sevoflurane and Desflurane.

Facilities for Students

  • Students are trained with state-of-the-art facilities under the guidance of world-renowned faculty.
  • There is a seminar room for PG academics, equipped with an LCD projector and computer with broadband internet access.
  • There is a dedicated departmental library with updated versions of the standard reference books pertaining to the speciality and subspecialties of Anaesthesia. The students also gain access to National and International journals through the University Subscription in the Central Library of the Institute.
  • During the academic year, students have the opportunity to attend and participate in various CME’s and workshops at National and International level.
  • Students have the opportunity to conduct research in their areas of interest.
