The Department offers comprehensive medical care to all patients up to the age of 12 years and is equipped amply to cater to diverse clinical cases that arrive to the hospital from in and around Puducherry and even the remotest parts.  In near future the Department plans to offer postdoctoral courses for Pediatric Surgery and aims to impart quality training to students who take up these courses. Emphasis has been laid on strengthening the antenatal diagnostic network with co-ordination from radiology and OBGY and postnatal follow-up and possible Intervention by means of regular Antenatal Clinics.

 


The department has 20 bedded fully functional Ward with dedicated nursing care and equipped with

  • Digital infusion pumps
  • Syringe infusion Pumps for fluid monitoring
  • Crash Cart with Defibrillator
  • Emergency Resuscitation kit for children.

Four bedded Postoperative Ward has central suction and oxygen supply with bedside monitors and round the clock availability of trained staff and resident.

The ward also has play area for children with safe toys for their recreation in hospital and psychological upliftment. The treatment / dressing room is attached to the Ward, for postoperative dressings and minor procedures.

The operation theaters are well equipped with latest Open Surgery and laparoscopy and Anesthetic equipments. The department has recently procured latest state-of-the-art laparoscopy Instruments exclusively for pediatric patients.

The department also offers emergency care for children admitted through casualty. Most common of these cases that are managed are - acute appendectomy, obstructed hernia and neonatal cases like anorectal anomalies and congenital diaphragmatic hernia, etc.

The department is approved for the Government sponsored Insurance scheme for the poor, viz., ‘Star health Kalaingar Kapeetu Thittam

The department is a part of the specialty screening camps in ‘Varummun Kappom Thittam’ and the state education board’s ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Program’ to treat the disabled children.

 


The department offers advanced clinical services to patients walking into the hospital. Following are the services that we offer:

Pediatric Urology

  • Single Stage Hypospadias repair
  • Pyeloplasty for PUJO, Ureteric Reimplantations, duplex systems, etc.
  • Day Care Cases
  • Endourology – Therapeutic and Diagnostic Valve fulguration, Ureterocele incision, Stent placement, etc

Pediatric Gastroenterology

  • Hirschsprung’s disease
  • Anorectal malformations
  • Small/large Intestinal pathology
  • Treatment of Choledochal cysts, Biliary Atresia.

Pediatric Thoracic Surgery

  • Decortications For Empyema
  • CLE, CCAM –lobectomy
  • Esophageal Atresia Repair

Pediatric Plastic Surgery

  • Cleft lip and palate repair
  • Contracture release for burns
  • Repair of neural tube defects

SPECIAL SERVICES

The department also provides the following special services in and around Puducherry, providing clinical services for those who cannot have access to the advanced treatments.

School Outreach Services

  • Questionnaire based screening for Genital Anomalies in Primary School children, in the villages covered by the health centers

Antenatal Services

  • Parental counseling and antenatal follow up of anomalies diagnosed before birth.
  • Plans to start regular Antenatal Clinics.

TEACHING

Postgraduate and Undergraduate Teachings

  • Regular Monthly postings for Surgery Postgraduates  in second year M.S. (Gen. Surgery)
  • Training includes Informal Bedside teachings, Formal Clinical Case presentations and Operative Training in Pediatric cases.
  • 12 hours Course in the 8th semester for MBBS students
  • 10 hours Course in the 6th semester for B.Sc. Nursing
